CityPlace Connected Community
CityPlace is an initiative of Comprehensive Care of Wilmington, an all-volunteer non-profit organization founded in 2010. CityPlace is a housing-with-supports project focused on moderate-income seniors and young adults with disabilities wishing to continue living in the community.
In 2022, CityPlace began a collaboration with IndependentWorks, which is also dedicated to creating a housing community for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). The two organizations further enhanced their joint efforts by successfully teaming up with Cape Fear Collective as fiscal sponsor and were awarded a substantial grant from the New Hanover Community Endowment's first grant cycle. This grant has allowed CityPlace to conduct a series of community outreach activities while also focusing on identifying downtown real estate suitable for the envisioned housing community. This last goal is in the process of being realized in partnership with Wesley Community Development Corporation, a non-profit, innovative development firm that works with faith groups to repurpose real estate holdings for projects such as affordable housing to advance their mission.
CityPlace Connected Community hopes to be in a position to break ground for the project in 2024. To learn more, check out the CityPlace website here.
